The 300-year-old marriage tradition of Yoruk culture, "ceremony of carrying wedding chest to bridal house" was revived in Yatağan district in Aegean province of Muğla.
The "groom candidate" brought a wedding chest, a large basket and around 50 dowry bundles, carried on a camel's back, and the journey of the camel to the bride's house was accompanied by the groom and his relatives, with clarions and drums.
Women carried colorful presents on their heads and walked along with the camel, adorned and dressed with ornaments.
This tradition of "dowery cortege" takes an important place in the general customs of Yoruks, defined mostly as nomadic peoples primarily inhabiting in the mountains of Anatolia and partly Balkan peninsula.
Within this custom, families announce their children's future night of henna and wedding ceremony.
