Although her own T-shirt declared that she had learned "All the lessons," a young woman who murdered her husband in southern Turkey has told local police that she has "no regrets" over the killing.
"Will women always die? Let some men die too. I killed him for my honor" 28-year-old Çilem Doğan told police in the southern province of Adana on Thursday.
The 33-year-old husband, Hasan Karabulut, was found dead after he was shot with six bullets at the estranged couple's home in the Yeşilyurt neighborhood of Adana on July 8. As the main suspect, police sought Doğan, from whom Karabulut was divorced but who has been living together with their daughter.
Doğan was detained at her father's house in Adana and soon confessed to the murder. According to reports, she had filed complaints to the police after her husband beat her.
"He came home in the morning on the day of the incident. He slept for a short time and then wanted me to prepare his luggage. I asked why. He said we would go to Antalya together and I would become a prostitute" the woman reportedly told the police.
"When I opposed, he beat me. He pushed me on the bed and the pistol under the pillow came into my mind. I grabbed it and shot him repeatedly. Then I took my daughter and left the home" Doğan added.
While walking to the courthouse for medical checks on July 9, the suspect was photographed wearing a T-shirt reading: "Dear past, thanks for all the lessons. Dear future, I am ready."
Handcuffed between two police officers, Doğan also gave two "thumbs up" to reporters following her.
More than 100 women have been killed by men, mostly their relatives, in Turkey since Jan. 1
