05 Haz 05.06.2023 3,000-year-old tradition of salt production continues in Kemah In the facilities in Kemah district of Erzincan, they continue to produce salt by watering greenhouse-like pools with 3,000-year-old traditions. The 455-year-old salt mine in Kömür Village, which is connected to Kemah district, continues to produce. The salt mine, which was operated by the Salt Enterprises General Directorate for years, meets the salt needs of the Eastern Anatolia Region after being privatized. The history of the salt mine, which Evliya Çelebi praised in his travelogue, dates back 455 years. The Kemah salt, which is produced as a result of the workers' laborious efforts, is sold in many cities, including Istanbul, Bursa, Ankara, Erzurum, Trabzon, and Izmir. Kemah salt, which has been produced in the region for years, is preferred by cheese makers, shepherds, and picklers in the East due to its taste and its ability to extend the shelf life of food products.
